Introduction to Microporous Pleated Filter Cartridges

Microporous Membrane
Definition and Structure
A microporous membrane is a thin film with a porous structure, with a pore size generally ranging from 0.025 to 10μm. It is usually made of polymeric materials such as cellulose esters, polysulfone, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), etc. These materials form thin films with uniform micropores through phase transformation, stretching, and other processes. For example, cellulose ester microporous membranes have good hydrophilicity and good filtration effect on aqueous solutions; while PVDF microporous membranes have excellent chemical stability and corrosion resistance, suitable for filtration of various chemical solutions.
Working Principle
Microporous membranes mainly filter based on the sieving principle. When fluid (gas or liquid) passes through the filter membrane, particles larger than the pore size of the filter membrane are intercepted on the surface of the filter membrane, while particles smaller than the pore size can pass through the filter membrane. In addition, adsorption and electrostatic effects may also be involved in the filtration process. For example, some charged particles may be captured by the filter membrane due to electrostatic adsorption, further improving the filtration effect.
Application Scenarios
In the laboratory, microporous membranes are often used to filter microorganisms, cell debris, and other tiny particles. They are important tools for preparing sterile solutions and pre-treating biological samples. In the pharmaceutical industry, they are used for sterile filtration of pharmaceuticals to ensure sterility. In the electronics industry, they can filter particles in the preparation of ultrapure water, ensuring the quality of water used in high-precision processes such as electronic chip manufacturing.
