Among common methods for removing viruses from pharmaceuticals, virus filtration is an effective physical step for virus removal. Its advantages—simple and gentle operation, clear mechanism, and ease of validation—have led to its widespread use in purification processes for virus safety. Currently, virus filters with a 20nm cutoff are widely used. These filters rely on size exclusion to retain viruses; viruses larger than the filter pore size are retained while the product passes through. This method removes both enveloped and non-enveloped viruses. Because of its size-based retention mechanism, a 20nm virus filter can effectively remove not only small viruses but also murine leukemia viruses (80-100nm in diameter) and other virus particles. VF virus filters combine high virus safety and excellent membrane capacity, resulting in a high-throughput, single-use filter. The hollow fiber design eliminates the need for additional fixtures, minimizing footprint and making it a low-wash, pre-sterilized, ready-to-use product.
